Advisory on Potential Scam Calls Using Phone Number Spoofing
26 September 2026
Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant against scam calls impersonating the Consulate-General, including calls using phone number spoofing to display the Consulate-General’s official number.
The Consulate-General of Singapore in Ho Chi Minh City has received reports that members of the public have received suspicious calls from persons claiming to be from the Consulate-General.
In some instances, the phone number displayed on recipients’ phones is the Consulate-General’s official main line, +84 28 3822 5174.
Scammers may use phone number spoofing technology to disguise the actual number they are calling from and cause the Consulate-General’s phone number to appear on the recipient’s caller ID. The display of the Consulate-General’s phone number does not necessarily mean that the call originated from the Consulate-General.
Members of the public are advised to take the following precautions when receiving unsolicited or suspicious calls:
Do not transfer or send money to the caller.
Do not disclose personal or financial information, including your identification number, passport information, bank account or credit card details, passwords, or one-time passwords (OTPs), to suspicious or unknown parties.
If you receive a suspicious call claiming to be from the Consulate-General, hang up and independently verify the call by contacting the Consulate-General at +84 28 3822 5174 or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singapore at +65 6379 8000 using the contact details published on MFA’s official website.
Members of the public are reminded to remain vigilant against phone scams and other attempts to impersonate government officials.
